Big 12 Basketball Media Days in Kansas City continued Wednesday with Wes Miller being joined by Day Day Thomas, Kerr Kriisa, and Moustapha Thiam to discuss the upcoming season, transitions, and evolution of Cincinnati as a program under Miller.

Day Day Thomas — On Ball Screens & Mid-Range Game

 

  • On reading the defense: “I really try to see how the defender gonna guard. Is he going to go over or under? He went under, so A’s already playing drop, so I get to the mini game.”

  • On whether the mid-range is a good shot:  Coach Miller: “For Day Day, it is. Just for Day and very few other people.”



Moustapha ThIam — On Defensive Role

 

  • On adapting to Cincinnati: “I think I can be good defensively... just keep trusting in Coach Wes and the work he been putting in.”

  • On progress so far: “I think I’ve been learning a lot of things.”


Kerr Kriisa — On Shooting and Spacing

 

  • On his impact as a shooter: “Just the ability to make shots… I think it’s going to help my teammates to create more driving lanes.”


Coach Wes Miller — On Shon Abaev


  • On Shawn’s shooting consistency: “Is he going to have a night where he shoots the ball successfully every single time that he steps on the floor? No, that’s not going to happen.”

  • On Shawn's approach: “He’s come in with a very humble, work-minded approach that has earned the respect of his teammates.”


Day Day Thomas — On Baba Miller

 

  • On Baba’s fit and work ethic: “I love Baba… he got the passion for the game. His work ethic is crazy. Energy, leadership… he run the floor well. He can shoot the ball.”


Coach Miller — On Kerr Kriisa’s Leadership

 

  • On Kerr’s personality: “Kerr’s got an infectious personality… and he’s a fierce competitor on the court.”

  • On his transition energy: “Day Thomas is running the court harder… because he knows he’s going to get it or good things are going to happen.”

  • Joking about Kerr’s experience: “I think he was playing when I was finishing my college career.”


Day Day Thomas — On Returning from Injury

 

  • On finally playing after missing last year: “Feel great… just here to represent Cincinnati basketball. It’s an honor.”


Coach Miller — On Building a Veteran Roster

 

  • On Big 12 preparation: “The goal was to build a roster that could be competitive in the best league in college basketball.”
